Overview - Curriculum at Carole Park State School

At Carole Park State School, we believe that every child can succeed and is welcome. We proudly recognise the cultural richness that our students and their families bring to our school and seek to work with our school community and the gifts of knowledge and skills they present to allow us to implemented the curriculum with authentic learning experiences.

Our school provides quality teaching for all Australian Curriculum subjects:

  • English
  • Mathematics
  • Science
  • Humanities and Social Sciences (Geography, History and Economics)
  • Physical Education and Health
  • The Arts (Music, Visual Arts, Drama, Media Arts and Dance)
  • Languages (Japanese)
  • Technologies (Design and Technology, and Digital Technology)

Teachers plan and implement the curriculum so that each child can be a successful learner.  To achieve this goal, our teachers meet with the Head of Curriculum and Special Education Program Teacher regularly to develop a deep understanding of the Australian Curriculum and how best teach, support and extend our students. All students are taught their curriculum that they are entitled to.

Carole Park State School has policies and procedures to support inclusive education supported through research based differentiation strategies for all students across the key curriculum areas.  Our teachers work hard to plan and implement lessons that respond to individual student needs by:

·         Knowing their students

  • Knowing the curriculum intent
  • Varying the pathways to success

 

At our school, the teachers use a variety of to inform the students learning and the support to progress students towards achieving their goals. Students are assessed throughout each lesson formatively and at the end of a unit the student engages in a summative task to determine their overall understanding of the topic. These assessment pieces are moderated across the year level and cluster schools to ensure consistency.

 

Students in years 3 and 5 participate in National Assessment Program in Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN).

 

The curriculum is implemented through powerful age appropriate pedagogy across all year levels at Carole Park SS. Teachers receive frequent professional development and feedback on their teaching to insure we are performing to achieve positive learning experiences for our students.

 

Written report cards are issued twice yearly, using a five point scale to report student achievement. Parent teacher interviews are offered in terms 1 and 3. As can be seen, a variety of assessment pieces are used to demonstrate student learning and inform end of semester reporting.
