There are many benefits of learning other languages. Research has shown that multilingual people on average:
• Have a greater cultural awareness
• Are able to concentrate for 20% longer
• Perform better in tests than students who only know one language
• Are more resistant to Alzheimer's and Dementia
• Have better memory and processing speeds
• Are better at doing two things at once
• Have a statistically significant increase in mathematical creativity
At Carole Park State School we have the privilege to teach our students Japanese.
Using the Australian Curriculum, students in years 5-6 learn Japanese Language & Culture, including:
- Introduction to Japan & Introduction to Japanese (about self)
- Describing Friends & Family
- Food Around the World (Australia and Japan)
- Shopping
- Sports & Everyday Life
- Housing – My Favourite Space
- Travel in Japan
- Hiragana – the Japanese Alphabet
- Some high frequency Kanji such as: Month, Day (date) and Days of the Week
In addition, younger students in years 3-4 have opportunity to learn some Japanese Language & Culture, in readiness for later years.
Students learn some of the following:
- Greetings
- Numbers (words and how to write in Kanji, use )
- Colours
- Hiragana (the Japanese Alphabet)
- The Weather
- Annual Events which are celebrated in Japan
We have recently started an Anime club that is becoming very popular as a social activity at our school.
